Chapter 1
I really like caves; thinking to myself, while going about my duties here at the experimental aircraft center here in southern california: before i get into this story any further, let me introduce myself: my name, Dick, and my duties here at the center are janitorial: it's late, and everyone but me has gone home; right now i am on break and looking at the saucer, which i do every night: it measures sixty feet across and is capable of traveling at more than twice the speed of light: there is seating for three; the pilot and two guests: it was finished yesterday and is scheduled for flight tomorrow: what the: excuse the interruption, but a tremendous jolt just hit the building: wow another one just hit; stronger then the first, i sure hope that the elevators are not damaged; let me explain, this aircraft center here where i am at, is five hundred feet below the surface of the earth: the only two things that i know of that could have caused the jolts that this building took, and they are, earth quakes and nuclear explosions. i must get to the surface and find out what has happened: if not for my faith in the blessed Lord Jesus, i would probably be filled with fear and panic right now. Bad news, both of the elevators that the people who work here use to get down here and back to the surface are not working; this leaves only one other elevator, and this is the one that brings the aircraft to the surface, and i have just discovered that it is working. I am on my way up now: i should arrive at the surface in a couple of more minutes: i have just found myself thinking about Julie a young girl that i meet in the city of Modesto, here in Ca. a few years back: she was to young to get married than or to even date: oh how i hope that God has not let any thing happen to her: she reminds me so much of my sister Joan when she was real young: whom also i hope that God has not let anything happen to. I am at the surface now and i can't believe what my eyes are telling me: no matter where i look there is nothing to see but what looks to be like wilderness land. Fortunately for me, i put on a protective suite before coming up. It looks like the thing that everybody feared finally happened: I am wondering who it was that fired the first missal: oh Lord thankyou for saving my life: since the saucer was scheduled for flight tomorrow: it is here on the elevator with me. I am inside the saucer and have asked the computer to try and make contact with someone: hours have passed and the computer has failed to make contact with anyone. [next day], Today I am going to practice flying the saucer, actuly the computer flys the aircraft, all the pilot does is give voice commands when in manuel flight: after three days of practice I am ready to go in search of other people: the first person I want to look for is Julie: but before I can leave I am going to have to go back down below and load supplies into the saucer.
Chapter 2
I am ready to leave now: and i have just told the computer where i want to go: i am on my way to modesto : i am moving along slowly about fifty feet above the ground, other then rubble there is not much else to see, no sign of life anywhere and nothing to hear not even from the saucer, the saucer makes no noise at all. The saucer stopped and i have been told that i am in modesto and i have also been told that there is human life near by in an under ground shelter: i am on my way there now: i have been told that it is safe to remove the protective suite now: i am at the shelter, and just as i was starting to get out of the saucer, the computer stopped me and said to be care full that there is hostility here, then a drawer opened where there was no sign of any drawer and in the drawer was a small looking device, and the computer said to take it: if someone tries to harm you, point the device at the person trying to harm you and with your thumb, push the button , which is located in the center of the device: upon doing this, a highly concentrated beam or ray of sound will come forth from the device, a ray of sound that is stroung enough to dicentigrate whatever it hits, and to return to the ship as quickly as possible. I knocked on the door of the shelter and a voice inside said who are you: then I told the person speaking to me who I was and that it was safe to come out now: the door opened and I could hear arguing and people yelling at each other: then when they were told that it was safe to be out side, they started walking out of the shelter; as I stood close to the door watching for julie. The saucer can't be seen from right out side the shelter; there is a small hill blocking the view of it: if they see it , they might try to harm me and seize it: but for now the people are just standing aroundl and looking in disbelief. A familiar voice just broak the silence; dick, and as i turn to look toward the entrance of the shelter, there she is and throwing her arms around me with tears running down her face, dick is it really you; yes julie, it is me, and we have to get out of here right now: hold on to my hand tight while I lead us to safety. Were at the saucer now and none to soon: many people have spotted it and are heading this way: hurry julie get inside I will enplane everything later: but right now we have to get out of here fast: julie and I are inside now and safe: and lifting off: (the computer that was built into this craft was built to learn and to gain knowledge: before julie and i reached the saucer; the steps that lead into the craft were lowered: the computer somehow new that I was heading back and not only lowered the steps but had the saucer ready for left off: before this, I would have had to use a little device that I carry in my pocket that gives off a frequency that lowers the steps and would also have had to of given the computer the command to prepare for left off): Julie where is your family, I don't know; I was not with my family when I was told by the authorities to go to the shelter; first thing in the morning we will go and look for them: oh God thank you for saving Julie. Dick, what is this that we are in: this Julie is the worlds first flying saucer and I happened to be working at the place that built it: the people that built it and there fellow employees were killed in the explosions: what was it like in the shelter: not very good, the people were afraid and angry about what had happened; I am just so glad that you came to the shelter to to look for me. Julie just fell asleep: I asked the computer, where are we going? it told me that while I was talking to my guest that it had been looking for more human life in the area; but did not find any: then lets go back to the center; I had no sooner given the command and we were there, as I sat in disbelief..
